Allergies and good advice ( pt 2)
To quote, and, sometimes paraphrase the Allergy-Free COOKBOOK:
Food allergy is responsible for major medical and psychiatric problems, including autism, arthritis, chronic fatigue, depression and schizophrenia. Allergies are often ignored by medical professionals as a major cause of disease. Genuine illnesses related to food allergies are often misdiagnosed. They do not fit a simple pattern. The most important food allergy is the form that causes a lot of trouble as it remains undetected.
Daily exposure to a food over an extended period of time can lead to an allergic state, causing one to exceed the threshold of allergic tolerance. There is no suspicion that food played a role in the development of illness. When eating this food is continued, the illness remains chronic and may be progressive. This may be further complicated by food addiction, a very common aspect of food allergy. Eating the food gives relief from the symptoms which were caused by the last ingestion of the food. It may even impart a sense of well being and increase energy.
It goes on to say that allergy related food binges may occur, with the allergic food becoming a favorite. Again, misdiagnose may occur, with the patient being seen as hypoglycemic, even though this is a relatively rare disorder. Now, when they want to say hypoglycemic they tend to say “pre-diabetic”.
It also mentions that foods are contaminated by agricultural chemicals while processing depletes the inherent value of food. We develop multiple vitamin and mineral deficiencies and that these deficiences are responsible for 80 % of our mortality rate.
For some people it is not always the food. The food acts as a vehicle for toxic substances. This is demonstrated in patients who improve by switching to organically grown produce.
Beyond food allergies, modern living imposes stresses that did not exist, previously. ...harmful environmental substances in our water supply... air unhealthy to breathe ...innumerable products contaminate our household.
This is all a small part of the introduction to the book, which has a copyright date of 1981. I remember the book being made fun of way back when. Now, it sounds less like a nut trying to sell a book and more like mainstream concerns of the average human being.
